As a member of the Rare Fruit and Vegetable Council what benefits do I receive?
RFVC members may purchase rare tropical plants and trees from our nursery. You receive our exclusive newsletter. You can attend our monthly meetings with our tropical tasting table and special guest speakers. Access to germplasm stock from our specimen rare tropical fruit trees. Hands-On Workshops (grafting, jams and jellies). Lending Library on tropical fruits and vegetables and more.
Do you sell plants to the public?
Anyone is welcome to purchase at our bi-annual plant sales that we host in the Spring and the Fall. Members may buy plants on the Saturday following the members' meeting (the second Monday of each month).

How often to you email your member newsletter?
The newsletter is emailed to our members quarterly. (Mailed upon special request).
Who can participate at the nursery?
All members are encouraged to come out and help maintain the nursery at our 208 research garden. In the process of helping you will have the opportunity to learn methods of plant propagation, grafting, fertilization and nursery management.
What are the hours?
The Rare Fruit and Vegetable Council is open to members on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM. Members may enjoy the facility and volunteer their time for gardening, upkeep and maintenance of the property.
What types of plants do you have?
The list is always changing! We cultivate a wide assortment of rare tropical fruits, herbs and vegetables. We seek to grow less common cultivars with a high nutritional value. Click here to view a list of tropical plants we have grown in the past and a plot map of our property.
How do you source the plants that you grow?
We cultivate plants from cuttings, grafts, air layering and seed. On occasion we purchase plants from other nurseries and online catalogues. We also accept donations from individuals, members and other organizations. To learn more about donating to the RFVC click here.
Are membership dues tax deductible?
The Rare Fruit and Vegetable Council of Broward County, Inc., is recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) organization. While the annual $35 membership fee is not considered a donation, charitable contributions may be tax deductible according to the limit allowed by law.
